About Intel New Mexico

Our employees manufacture and test some of the most sophisticated products the world has ever seen. They also take their talent and dedication beyond Intel's walls into the community, where they are actively involved in education and civic programs.


Intel came to New Mexico in 1980, and began operations with fewer than 25 employees.


Intel New Mexico currently employs 3,300.


Intel is the largest private industrial employer in New Mexico.


Our site is the home of Fab 11X, which is amongst the most advanced microchip-making facilities in the world.


Fab 11X began production in October, 2002. Fab 11X is Intel's first high volume 300mm, or 12–inch, manufacturing facility. It is also Intel's first fully automated factory. Products will include the Intel® Pentium® 4 processors and other advanced chips. Fab 11X has been selected as a production site for Intel’s next generation 45 nm manufacturing processor to begin the second half of 2008.

The campus includes more than four million square feet of manufacturing facilities and office space.


The Intel NM site is the only Intel site to host a U.S. Presidential visit. In 2006, President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush held a round table discussion with Intel Board Chairman Craig Barrett and others, on increasing the quality of science and technology education for U.S. competitiveness.


Albuquerque, NM hosted the 2007 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF). Intel ISEF is the world's largest pre-college science competition that provides an opportunity for the world's best young scientists and inventors to come together to share ideas, showcase cutting-edge science projects, and compete for USD 4 million in awards and scholarships.

Employee involvement

In 2006, Intel New Mexico and its employees donated $3.1 million to the United Way of Central New Mexico.


In 2006, more 53% of Intel New Mexico employees donated volunteer time working on behalf of children, education, arts and culture, the environment, and civic programs.


Intel donates $200 to state-wide K-16 schools for each 20 hours of employee involvement at the schools through the Intel Foundation's Volunteer Matching Grant Program. In the past 26 years, Intel employees have generated over $1 million for New Mexico schools.
